RMT Motorcycle Training is the preferred supplier of The Safer Roads Partnership to deliver Take Control post test motorcycle training and education to riders in the counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.

This course is targeted at inexperienced riders, those progressing to more powerful bikes, riders returning to biking after a break and those who want to develop their skills further. The aim of the day is to enhance the ability and confidence of every rider who completes this training and development programme.

Take Control has been reintroduced to help our counties motorcyclists become safer riders on our roads at a greatly reduced cost to the individual, who are encouraged to ‘Take Control’ of their own riding ability and motorcycling future.

‘Take Control’ course for Larger powered bikes – over 125 cc

This is not an advanced training course but a way of taking your riding to the next level. The course is heavily subsidised and will only cost £50 for a full day’s motorcycle training; basic advanced skills will be taught with an emphasis on cornering as well as counter steering, braking techniques and overtaking. Many more disciplines will be covered during the day but the course programme will be developed around your personal needs and requirements.

There will only be two trainees per instructor, so the training will be delivered on a personal level. Why not train with a friend as you can both arrive together with the knowledge of what you would like to cover during the day? You can always email us the areas you wish to improve upon before you attend, so that the instructor can put together a training plan before your arrival.

‘Take Control’ course for smaller powered machines 50 – 125cc

To be eligible for this section of the Take Control course for smaller powered two wheelers, you must have completed a CBT course or passed a test on a smaller powered machine or hold either a category P, A1 or A2 motorcycle licence and live within the qualifying counties.

The course is open to any aged rider and the aim is to ensure you understand how to handle your motorcycle on today’s busy and congested roads, taking into account other road users, their actions and being able to avoid incidents by riding defensively.

Bike handling skills will be the foundation of this course and you will also be taught how to steer the motorcycle correctly and use good braking techniques to ensure stability with an emphasis on overtaking and filtering in heavy traffic.

The courses will be conducted from a local school or college that is working closely with The Safer Roads Partnership and RMT Motorcycle Training to deliver the scheme. You will need to call to find out your nearest location and training date.

Your machine must be between a 50-125cc and be fully road legal, including L plates if you are still a learner.

Other Information

RMT Motorcycle Training is open seven days per week, so depending on instructor availability you can choose a time and date to suit your diary to complete this course.

The benefit of undertaking the Take Control course with RMT Motorcycle Training is that it will count towards your Enhanced Rider Scheme training. This is an approved Driving Standards Agency course which takes your riding to the next level. A rider portfolio will be set up after your day with us. Upon completion of the ERS course, when you have met the required standard, you could be entitled up to 20% off your insurance premiums.

Riders are restricted to receiving a subsidy for Take Control training once every three years, so if you completed training under this scheme prior to 2009 you can take another course now to brush up your skills or take them to a higher level.

You will need to bring your own motorcycle, it must be roadworthy and you must have all relevant documentation when you arrive, radio communication will be provided throughout the training day.

A Take Control training record will be completed for each rider, highlighting areas covered throughout the day, risk areas that have been identified and also a future development training programme will be discussed and given on completion.

We look forward to seeing you soon, find out more by seeing our training video for Take Control on our RMT Motorcycle YouTube channel.
